Database Analysis Workshop
Tuesday, June 6, 2006
Lubbock, Texas

May 25, 2006                                                                        Link to Sample Database
To All Database Verification Workshop Attendees:

When asked what an attendee should bring, Sharon Nichol-Jost recommended the following:

Bring (or generate) spreadsheets and/or paper lists on the following for your District:
        - Valid ESNs
        - Valid County Codes (FIPS)
        - Valid Exchanges
        - Valid NPAs

I would bring a printed copy of them as well, that way, when you execute the query and have results, you can then view the results against the paper copy.  For example, the queries we run will generate a list of ESNs in the database, but I won’t be able to determine if they are valid or not since I am not familiar with your jurisdiction.

We probably will not get too deep into the paper MSAG so if you have an electronic copy that will be fine.  I can show you how to run a compare against the MSAG street name versus the GIS street name.  A participant I spoke with at the May 3rd session does not have standardized names between the MSAG and GIS and that’s why I mentioned the MSAG.

ALSO - Two other items.
Please let Nathan (nkizer@911.lubbock.tx.us) whether you will need transportation from the Hotel to the District Office and from the District Office to the Airport.
Please let Nathan know if you would be interested in a "group" dinner at Outback Steakhouse on Monday (June 5, 2006) evening. We would set this up for about 7:00 P.M.

Thanks

May 4, 2006

Good Morning:

I am pleased to announce that the Lubbock Emergency Communication District will host a Database Verification/Validation workshop on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 from 9AM to 3PM.
The workshop, facilitated by Sharon Nichols-Jost, Database Manager for Bexar Metro, will provide insight on checking the AT&T database that is provide at least once per year to each District.
Sharon has spent many hours developing Microsoft Access queries to pull pertinent data from the database that will help you identify CLECs, Bad Phone Numbers and even MSAG problems.
Bexar Metro has agreed to let Sharon share these queries with the other Districts.
Since Microsoft Access is used extensively, a good knowledge of the program is recommended. To help bring you up to speed on MS Access - Sharon has provided a link to FREE MS Access training - http://h30187.www3.hp.com/

LECD is providing the training room, and will provide lunch.
Please RSVP ASAP to Nathan Kizer - nkizer@911.lubbock.tx.us or myself. Please include whether you will need to spend the night. Once we have an idea how many will need a hotel, we will block rooms with one and provide you the reservation information.

YOU WILL NEED TO BRING - your laptop with MS Access (Optional, but good idea)
YOUR COPY OF THE AT&T DATABASE - REQUIRED

Again, please RSVP - ASAP - so that we can get a hotel set up.

Thanks
